Hermit on FMJ's for Self Defense

"I was once told by a fellow that being shot with ball is "only like being stabbed with an ice pick, while a hollow point makes a big hole." My response was that if I stabbed him in the chest three or four times with an ice pick, I would probably accomplish what I wanted to anyway."

3rdman, That is true. I think the ammo argument is probably less important then the almost completely futile caliber/ platform argument. I prefer hollow points because of the penetration issue but if ball was convenient it is what I would go with.

Of course anything's better than nothing, but good bonded-core hollow points are far, far better than FMJ.

Oblio, While I hesitate to put words in anyone's mouth, I seem to recall Hermit mentioning that since he carries several different pistols; some of which are fairly old military models (designed for ball ammo)finding loads that would work with this pistol or that one would be expensive and a pain in the butt. Or something to that effect.
