Barter Town: Spring Cleaning 2015 Updated 9 Apr

Updated 4/16: If you had an eye on something but the price wasn't quite right this is the time to strike before I list things elsewhere. Send me a note with what you are thinking and we'll talk. I'm not having a fire sale but I do want to unload this stuff and put that value elsewhere. If I earn another hundred bucks I can get a case of 5.56 which sounds pretty darn good to me.

I teased it before. Folks seemed to think my idea not to include shipping in costs as it would drag up the price of items but instead have a surcharge for smaller purchases. After deliberation I set the amount (under which a $10 surcharge will be added) as $60. The reason for that instead of $50 is that price would let someone buy an item, toss in a $10 pouch and avoid paying the surcharge. In effect I would be giving away the smaller item.

As to procedures either leave a comment or email me at theotherryan@yahoo.com and include Barter Town in the subject line (both is the best approach). Obviously the first person to make a full price offer gets the item. If they want to bargain (which is totally fine) I will do one of four things: A) accept right away B) counter offer, C) tell them I'll see how much interest the item gets and maybe get back to them or D) outright reject their offer.

EDITED TO INCLUDE: Payment can be done through paypal (theotherryan@yahoo.com) or USPS money order.

Anyway here we go.

Knives:
British Sheffiield made OEM Survival Knife. It cost me $85 plus shipping. I received this knife and immediately just didn't like the way it handled. Too heavy for it's length in my opinion. I never used it as I planned to return it. For reasons lost to time the return got messed up and in frusteration I put it on a shelf and a few months went by.

Holsters:
Safariland 6285 1.5in drop holster for a Glock 17 with TLR-1 light. I know they also fit a G19 just fine. Also I believe they fit the G22/23 as holsters are generally compatible between the two.

Bianchi Model 7/7L pancake holster for a full sized 1911.Slightly used in excellent condition Asking $35.

Quality leather OWB holster for a Glock 26 though it will fit a G19 just fine. Got it in a complicated trade and don't need it. Manufacturer is unknown but it is a nice well made holster. Used in excellent condition. Asking $40.
Cross breed style holster (manufacturer unknown) for a Glock 9mm. Used in VG/G condition. Asking $30.
Sold

Bianchi (I'm pretty sure) leather IWB holster for a Walther PP/PPK. Would presumably fit similar sized guns like a Bersa .380 but again do your own research and take your own chances. It was barely used as I owned the PP for about a week but probably sat on the shelf at the gun shop for a minute so the leather is pretty stuff. A rub of saddle soap or leather conditioner should fix that minor problem. Asking $15.

Other Stuff:

Springfield leather (National Match?) sling. In very good condition. I purchased it because the Garand needed a sling. Took it off when I sold the rifle and do not have a use for it. Asking $25.
Side saddle for a Mossberg 500. Can't remember who made it and the bolts to mount it were lost who knows when. Asking $10.

Leather sling. Asking $20.

PUR hiker water filter. Asking $40. They don't make these anymore but they take Katadyn replacement filters.

My goal is to make enough cash to fund some projects. Honestly as such my primary goal is to turn this stuff into cash. Inevitably the topic of trades will come up. First of all valuing trades is hard, everyone wants to value their stuff close to new and the other guys at half the value. I tend to look at both sides stuff based on % of new price and factor in condition. If you have something else to trade I might be interested in I guess let me know. Worst case I will say no thanks.

Well that is what I have up for sale now. Please let me know if you have any questions. Barter Town is now officially open.

Edited to include: This post is going to be bumped to the top pretty consistently until the spring cleaning is over and Barter Town is closed.

If they want to bargain (which is totally fine) I will do one of four things: A) accept right away B) counter offer, C) tell them I'll see how much interest the item gets and maybe get back to them or D) outright reject their offer. Honestly I think most of this stuff is priced reasonably and am not what you would call a motivated seller (trying to pay the overdue rent, etc).  I would rather move the lot over a month or two and get 10-20% more than do it right away for less. Most likely I will tell folks who want to pay less than asking I'll get back to them and see if a better offer comes in.

Cold Steel Safe Maker II push knife. Carried a couple times and maybe used to cut a box here or there. After realizing I wasn't going to carry the thing it went into my box of knives.

Tactical Tailor drop holster for a Beretta M9/92FS. This holster has been used (I carried it in Iraq) so it will have a frayed thread here and a scrape there, hence the price, but it is totally servicable. It may (do your own research and take your own chances) fit other comparably sized pistols like a Browning High Power or CZ-75.

Other Stuff:
HSGI double taco's, multicam in very excellent condition. I did replace the MALICE type clip on one (as it got scavenged for something else when in my gear bin) from something else but I doubt you would notice and the other clip is just fine. I have two of these for sale and am asking $35 a piece.
Sold
Tactical Tailor PRC-152 pouch in like new condition. I never even put it on a kit, let alone used it. Asking $25 since it cost me $40 something and is unused.

First of all valuing trades is hard, everyone wants to value their stuff close to new and the other guys at half the value. I tend to look at both sides stuff based on % of new price and factor in condition. Being honest I'm not looking to trade so am interested in good deals on very specific items or smoking deals on fairly specific items.

Things that definitely interest me are:
-An optic either Aimpoint Micro or Eotech. I could potentially add cash to the deal.
-An AR-15 BUIS rear sight. Not especially picky but want a metal one from a decent manufacturer.
-A Safariland 6004 drop holster for a Glock 17/TLR 1
-An Esse Izulla II

Things that might interest me depending on the deal AKA for a darn good deal:
-A good OWB holster for a 4" K frame .357 revolver
-A nice pair of aesthetically pleasing grips for a K frame revolver
-A pair of radios either Cobra/ Motorolla type family radios or hand held CB's.
-A slaved vis/ IR laser like a crimson trace
-MILSURP HK G3 mags
-An Eberlestock backpack that can hold a rifle
-Precious metals
-AR/ Glock/ AK mags
-AR/ Glock/ AK/G3 parts

If you have something else to trade I might be interested in I guess let me know. Worst case I will say no thanks.

Camping Survival Memorial Day Sale

Camping Survival is offering 5% off site wide if you use the code "memorialday".

They also recently added some new selection to their lantern line The UCO candle lanterns are a pretty cool piece of equipment, far superior to cheaper models, and come in a variety of colors.

They are also stocking bulletproof clip boards. At first I thought that was sort of silly. In the time it's taken to write this my opinion has changed. One of these would be awful handy to keep in the back of an everyday or school bag given the whole active shooter risk these days. Given that they are light, compact and affordable it is a handy option to have.

PSA Easter Sale, Free Joshua Ebook and Gardening Fun

PSA is having a pretty awesome Easter Sale. They have a variety of mags in 10 packs for $11-14 a piece and some other stuff on sale too. Probably worth checking out if you are in the market for gun accessories. John Wilson wanted me to mention that his Ebook Joshua will be available free until the 3rd.

Unfortunately it seems some folks are counterfeiting 90% silver.  This is why I buy our silver and gold from trusted dealers like JM Bullion. Learning more about testing silver might not be a bad idea either.

Today I got a cherry tomato plant and put it into the upside down planter thing Wifey got for $1.50 on clearance. Didn't take a great look at the Strawberry one and it takes multiple seedlings so I'll have to pick up a few more. Think I'll try to do them in phases so we can stagger the harvest a bit.

The strawberry plants we have so far looked pretty dead at one point. However now that they are in some dirt and have gotten some water they are turning around. One is good to go and the other is probably going to make it.

Also started some seeds to sprout. Lettuce, spinach, green beans and carrots. Did the egg carton thing. I am cautiously optimistic that enough will go to be able to plant when the time is right. Since the house is empty I'm just keeping them in the sink.

I am definitely enjoying this whole gardening thing. It is really calming for me. Hopefully next year we will be in a place where I can do something bigger and a bit more organized than my current gaggle of containers. Either in the ground or if the soil sucks a raised bed. That sort of effort would definitely make canning worthwhile. This year I will probably do it but mostly for it's own sake.

Hope you all had a good Easter.

What Did You Do To Prepare This Week?

A few things happened here. Recently I have put some time and energy into stocking a few extra household items. Stuff like laundry soap, light bulbs, etc. Also picked up a few OTC meds and a half gallon of 'emergency whiskey'. While obviously not a good choice for some emergencies but for plenty of more likely ones 2 drinks at the end of a long day would be nice. It isn't a bad idea to stash some of whatever you like.

Didn't really do a long run but overall last weeks fitness efforts went decent.

Ended up selling off the crimson trace laser grips that came with my new revolver. They are cumbersome for concealed carry being fairly large for a small gun like a J frame. They are just subtly too big to really let the gun do what I want. Also I shoot it better using the sights anyway. It's true they may be useful someday but that potential day is a long way off and during that time many new developments will likely come into play. Long before then I will probably be running red dots on my defensive pistols anyway. Also it dropped the price point for the little wheel gun which was nice. More importantly along with another sale freed up some cash for some things I will keep to myself at least for now.

Well that is what I did to prepare this week. What did you do?
